“From Siberia to Silicon Valley” a book about the story of inDrive by our CEO.

Spanish edition launch

On 16 March, our CEO, Arsen Tomsky presented the Spanish edition of his book, inDriver from Siberia to Silicon Valley: History of the creation of a global technology company. The virtual event included a Q&A with participants in Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, Panama and Argentina.

inDriver from Siberia to Silicon Valley describes the evolution of inDrive to its current position as the world’s second-most downloaded mobility app, from its beginnings in Yakutsk: when local taxi companies doubled their prices, locals created a group connecting people seeking lifts with would-be drivers, and the idea behind inDrive was born.

Latin America has played an important role in inDrive’s subsequent growth: In 2018, we began our global expansion in Mexico. We now operate in 200 cities across 17 countries in the region, including Brazil, Columbia, Argentina, Panama, El Salvador, Peru and Chile. Worldwide, we are operating in 47 countries.

As well as providing urban mobility in the city and over long distances, we offer small and large package delivery (through inDrive.Courier), and the ability to find and engage professionals (through inDrive Services), among others.

And there is plenty more to come, as Arsen told his online audience – beginning with the launch of inDrive.Jobs in Brazil later this year.

He also highlighted the social projects that inDrive has initiated in the region, including BeginIT, which sets out to teach IT skills to children, especially those growing up in difficult circumstances. Such projects tap into the founding values and mission of the company, the importance of which he highlights in his book.

“Today more than ever, it is imperative that if a company wants to create something outstanding, it must have a global vision and challenging objectives, in which a bold challenge is launched with an adrenaline injection for the team members,” he told the audience.

“With this book, I seek to motivate people to contribute to the world in any circumstance; in my case, challenging injustices has become an important driver for the foundation and development of the application.”

In inDriver: from Siberia to Silicon Valley, Arsen also points out the importance of having a consolidated leadership team. “It is essential to have a strategic intellectual team willing to solve problems,” he says. “The absence of a consolidated team can lead to failure, so a winning business culture must be based on kindness, openness, honesty and the absence of intrigues and pettiness. When a team is upright and has a healthy DNA, it attracts people in its image and likeness.”

With more than a decade of growth behind us, the story of inDrive continues…
