inDrive has reached the 5 billion deals mark! That’s A LOT of deals, and goes to show just how much passengers and drivers value freedom of choice and being in control of their ride. So how to celebrate such a huge figure? Our answer: with 5 billion facts! Or, I should say, ten facts that show just how extraordinary the number 5 billion is. So here they are, ranging from silly to spooky and straight up mind blowing:
1.- The world’s population reached five billion in 1987, sparking the creation of World Population Day by the United Nations. (We’re at around 8 billion now.)
2.- If you were to count to five billion nonstop, it would take more than 150 years without taking a break. But there are definitely better things to do with your time, so grab a ride and get out there!
3.- There are over five billion internet users worldwide, most of whom seem to really adore cats. And pandas. And memes. (And a lot of them have downloaded our app! Have we mentioned that we’re the 2nd most downloaded mobility app worldwide? That’s partly how we got to 5 billion deals…)
4.- Here’s a somewhat worrying one: Humans have produced more than five billion tons of plastic since its invention in the early 20th century. Enough already: time to reuse and recycle.
5.- The number of active mobile phones in the world surpassed the 5 billion mark in around 2017. All the better to hail a ride with, right?
6.- Astronomers estimate that there are about five billion stars similar to our Sun in the Milky Way alone. And the Milky Way, in turn, contains around five billion Earth-like planets. All of which begs the question: who’s out there? And do they ever come and visit? And when they do, do they use inDrive?
7.- Some of the world’s oldest rocks are nearly five billion years old. (No, we’re not talking about Keith Richards. He’s a Stone, Rolling).
8.- Some of the most popular YouTube videos have exceeded five billion views – Luis Fonsi’s “Despacito”, for one.
9.- Our Sun has been shining for about 4.6 billion years, and it has roughly five billion more years to go before it turns into a red giant. So you could say our solar system is middle-aged, which would explain a lot.
10.- On average, a human heart beats about 70 times a minute, reaching around 3 billion beats during an 80-year lifespan. But some larger animals, like whales, along with those with slower-beating hearts, like tortoises, can easily rack up five billion heartbeats in their lifetime.
There are plenty more facts about the number 5 billion (maybe even 5 billion of them). But you get the idea: it’s a huge, significant, fabulous number, and we’re really happy to have reached it. And it’s all thanks to the drivers and passengers who use our platform each day. Without you, we wouldn’t even have reached 1 (and that’s another really fascinating number….)
So, here’s to the next 5 billion!
